Eveleth City Council held the introduction and first reading of an ordinance intended to regulate the siting, installation and maintenance of antennas and towers inside city limits. Councilors said the measure was prepared after multiple inquiries from entities seeking to place equipment in town and that the ordinance aims to provide clear rules and minimize hazards such as loose cabling and ice shedding.
Councilors described the draft as a housekeeping and public-safety measure and said the first reading gives the public an opportunity to review the text and raise questions before later readings. The council voted to publish the ordinance’s title and summary in the city officials’ newspaper to start the public-notice process.
No substantive changes were adopted at the first reading; the council reserved further consideration for subsequent meetings where community feedback and technical questions may be considered.
The ordinance will return for additional readings and public comment before any final adoption vote.
