The Waterloo Community School District board voted to renew the superintendent—s contract through June 30, 2027 following a closed-session performance evaluation and a public recommendation by the board president.
Board members cited year-over-year improvements in the district—s primary goals, real-time reporting tools and progress on attendance and student performance as reasons for support. The board president said the closed-session review lasted nearly three hours and that the board felt confident in the superintendent—s direction for the district; the meeting record noted a 2.75% compensation package associated with the renewal.
Superintendent Dr. Smith thanked the board for support and highlighted several operational tools and initiatives reviewers emphasized, notably a new dashboard that provides near-real-time attendance and performance data down to classroom levels. Dr. Smith reported that average daily attendance was about 94% as of the meeting—s date, compared with 90.48% at the same point last year, and said staff will roll the dashboard out to principals and then teachers during October professional development.
Administrators also announced a communication plan and seven upcoming town-hall meetings to inform the public about a proposed high-school project and a related vote. Board members urged broad community participation in those sessions. The contract extension was approved by voice vote.
