Board approves five-year rodeo revenue-sharing agreement and purchase of new bucking-shoot set

Staff described a five-year plan that would allocate net rodeo revenue based on ad sales and other receipts; an example in the agreement showed 51% of net profits going to a community partner ("hers crew") and 49% to the FFA, with the stated goal that the community partner would accumulate funds over five years to purchase the rodeo assets and assume operations. The board voted to approve the agreement.
Separately, staff presented three vendor options for new bucking-shoots: a used set and a new set from Barnes/Max Steel (a long-time contractor to the district) and a higher-end Preferred set. Staff noted the existing set (built in the 1980s) was deemed unsafe for professional performance and recommended replacement. The board approved purchasing the new Barnes/Max Steel set and directed staff to pursue resale of the current equipment where feasible.
Val (staff) said working with Barnes was appealing because the company has supported the district’s rodeo work since 2009 and would assist with resale of the old set. The board approved both the five-year rodeo distribution arrangement and the bucking-shoot purchase by general consent.
Next steps: staff will finalize the purchase contract with the vendor, arrange resale of the current set if possible and implement the revenue-sharing agreement as written.
