Starmont board accepts audit, approves bus purchase and solicits mowing bids

The Starmont Community School District Board on Jan. 12 accepted the district’s 2024–25 audit and approved a set of routine operational actions including a new bus purchase and soliciting mowing bids.
Jacob Moellers moved to approve the audit as presented by Neil Schraeder of accounting firm Hacker Nelson; Julie Uhlenkamp seconded and the motion carried 5‑0.
The board also approved a motion to authorize the request for a new bus and to solicit mowing bids. Both motions were moved by Julie Uhlenkamp, seconded by Tony Recker, and approved 5‑0. The consent agenda, approved earlier in the meeting, included approval of minutes, monthly financial reports, monthly bills (audited by Uhlenkamp), personnel hires including Alaurah Alderson as an elementary para, open enrollments for Aubrey and Josie Kruger from East Buchanan, volunteer coaches and special education contracts.
The board scheduled a work session to conduct a building walkthrough with Maintenance Director Eric Bond to identify improvement priorities. The superintendent also reported upcoming dates: a budget workshop on Jan. 29 and legislative forums in Arlington on Feb. 28 and March 21 at 9 a.m.
The board moved into a closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) at 7:50 p.m. to evaluate the professional competency of an individual and returned to open session at 8:14 p.m. The meeting adjourned immediately afterward.
