Villisca board approves 2025–26 calendar, redeems 2019 bonds and accepts staff resignations

Director Williams moved and Director Gourley seconded approval of the meeting agenda in the initial session; the motion carried unanimously. The board reconvened at 5:02 p.m. for a second special session. Directors Williams, Shipley, Mullen, Poston and Gourley recorded attendance. After approving the second-session agenda, the board held a hearing on the 2025–26 school calendar and then voted.
Director Gourley moved and Director Williams seconded a motion to approve the 2025–26 School Calendar "as submitted." Following a roll call vote the motion carried unanimously with five yes votes.
On the same motion series, Director Gourley moved and Director Williams seconded a resolution authorizing redemption of the general obligation school bonds, Series 2019 (dated June 27, 2019), and levying a tax for fiscal year 2026 to fund that redemption. The resolution passed after a roll call vote, recorded as unanimous.
The board also accepted resignations submitted by Mackenzie Clark, listed as an elementary teacher, effective at the end of the 2024–25 school year, and Sheila Polk, listed as a paraprofessional. Director Williams moved and Director Shipley seconded the motion to accept those resignations; the motion carried unanimously.
Finally, the board approved the Certified Staff Master Contract for the 2025–2026 school year on a motion by Director Williams and a second by Director Gourley; that motion carried unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:14 p.m. and the minutes were signed by Jessie Forsythe, District Secretary, and Jason Poston, President. The record does not indicate any public comment during the hearings, nor does it state specific changes to the calendar or the levy amounts in the minutes.
