Meals on Wheels grant retracted after kitchen loss; task force to seek commercial kitchen to restore five‑day service

Jeanne Holland, a task force member who serves on the Central Minnesota Council for Aging, reported at the May 11 meeting that a local Meals on Wheels operation lost access to a kitchen at the old Buffalo Community Center and moved to Covenant, which can currently prepare meals only three days per week.
Holland said the reduction to three days has prompted the state to retract a grant that required five‑day meal service. She reported that Commissioner Moynagh, formerly the mayor of Montrose, indicated the Montrose facility has a commercial kitchen that could allow restoration of five‑day service; task force members asked staff to explore that option and other solutions.
The task force did not take a formal vote on the Meals on Wheels issue during the meeting; staff were directed to follow up and report back. The approved bylaws will be shared with task force members by email.
