Mayor Natalia Alarcón presented the proclamation and the council moved and approved it. Jahar Hardley, speaking via Zoom on behalf of Pacific Pride Foundation, accepted the recognition and said the organization was honored to work with Carpinteria to ensure LGBTQ+ people are “supported, seen and empowered.” Hardley thanked the council for “sending a clear message that LGBTQ+ individuals are valued and appreciated.”
The proclamation notes the historical context of Pride month, including the Stonewall riots of June 1969, recognizes the intersection of racial justice with gender and sexual‑orientation equity, and reaffirms the city’s commitment to collaborate with local organizations to advance dignity and safety for LGBTQ+ residents.
The council also directed staff to place the signed proclamation on city letterhead and forward a copy to Pacific Pride Foundation. The proclamation reading and acceptance occurred during the meeting’s opening presentation items; the vote to adopt was taken by voice and approved without recorded dissent.
