Corunna council considers condemnation, dog-ordinance warnings and noise concerns

Council members and staff spent a portion of the meeting on code-enforcement matters, including an announcement that the town would proceed with condemning a derelict house on Bridge Street and a lengthy exchange about recurring dog-barking complaints and nuisance generators.

The code-enforcement official said inspections on golf carts had not yet been completed and that the town had been following up on multiple complaints. On the housing issue the official reported the health department had been consulted and the town would move forward with condemnation procedures for the Gamble property on Bridge Street.

Multiple residents and the code officer described complaints about a hound that barks at night, loose dogs in several neighborhoods and a generator running continuously in an outbuilding, which was producing fumes and a perceived fire risk. The official said the town's animal and noise ordinances prohibit dogs being outside between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. and that repeat nuisance violations can result in fines and, ultimately, removal of the animal to a shelter if necessary.

Council agreed to give residents already warned a short period for compliance — roughly two weeks as discussed in the meeting — and to escalate enforcement if future complaints arrive. Members also discussed adding clearer alley-parking/towing language to town ordinances to address vehicles blocking alleys and damaging town-owned green strips.

No formal condemnations or fines were recorded as completed at the meeting; the town reported steps being taken and staff follow-up to verify complaints and next actions.
