Browerville board approves $1.67M in vendor claims, hires paraprofessionals and sets levy at state maximum

The Browerville Public School District Board of Education approved vendor payments totaling $1,673,726.55 and several personnel actions at its regular meeting on Sept. 9. The board carried a motion to approve claims across district funds, including $1,113,917.75 in building-construction expenditures.
Motion by Marty Host, second by Gram Bentz, and carried to approve vendor claims in the following funds: General Fund $379,741.85; Food Service $26,256.92; Transportation $70,147.65; Community Service $58,557.53; Capital Expenditures $8,442.94; Student Activity $16,634.89; Building Construction $1,113,917.75; Insurance Fund $27.02 (total $1,673,726.55). The motion passed by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes.
The board approved personnel hires. Motion by Kelly Callahan, second by Treg Schultz, and carried to hire paraprofessionals Jean May, Julie Zylka (.6 FTE) and Julia Zinter (.4 FTE). The meeting minutes also listed new staff members Rachael Dreher, Chelsea Line, Daihana Batista and (Marah May) as newly hired, though the minutes do not specify roles or FTE for those hires beyond the paraprofessionals noted above.
On compensation for athletic events, motion by Marty Host, second by Jodi Hillmer, and carried to set ticket-taker pay at $50 per night and scoring-table pay at $75 per night.
On district taxes, motion by Gram Bentz, second by Kelly Callahan, and carried to set the Preliminary 2024 Pay 2025 levy at the maximum amount permitted under Minnesota law. The board also voted (motion by Marty Host, second by Jodi Hillmer, carried) to schedule certification of the final FY 2024 Pay 2025 levy — the Truth and Taxation hearing and certification — for the board’s Dec. 9, 2024 regular meeting at 6:00 P.M.
The board adjourned at 6:41 P.M. after the motions were carried and recorded by Clerk Marty Host.
