Superintendent outlines start-of-year schedule, training and construction updates

Superintendent Scott Vedbraaten reported several operational and calendar items to the Browerville board at its Aug. 12 meeting, including student orientation dates, teacher training and ongoing summer construction work.
Vedbraaten (reporting also material from Mr. Sutlief and in Mr. Petermeier’s absence) said 7th Grade Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7:00 P.M.; the Elementary Open House is Wednesday, Aug. 21; KinderCamp will be held Aug. 22 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and the first day of school is Monday, Aug. 26. He noted a CIS (College in the School) staff meeting Aug. 22 in Brainerd to coordinate the district’s college-credit courses, which the minutes list as Comp I, Comp II, Human Biology, Intro to Communications, Introduction to Literature, Beginning College Algebra, College Algebra, Statistics, and Pre-Calculus.
On teacher training, Vedbraaten said, "The Elementary and Special Education Teachers will begin LETRS training on Thursday August 22. This is our initial phase to be in compliance with the READ ACT passed by the Legislature." The minutes record this as district preparation for READ ACT compliance.
Vedbraaten also reported that fall sports began the day of the meeting and highlighted an upcoming golf fundraiser at Double Eagle on Aug. 17. On facilities, he thanked Bill Buhl for summer work and stated that construction foundations are being poured and about 95% of preparatory work has been completed; the pool is scheduled to close Aug. 31 and hours may change.
The board recorded the administrative updates without further motion; several items (training, orientation dates and the pool closure) will require routine administrative follow-up.
