Ruthie Smith was appointed effective June 17, 2026 after Supervisor Hoadley moved the appointment and Supervisor Wedemeyer seconded; the board approved the motion by roll call vote with Supervisors Hoadley, Wedemeyer, Baier, Walker and Vice Chair Michael Christoffersen voting aye. The board instructed that former Auditor Mandy Berg be removed from county accounts and that Ruthie Smith be added to those accounts.
The meeting opened with a roll call by the clerk showing Supervisors Christoffersen, Baier, Hoadley, Walker and Wedemeyer present, along with staff members including Engineer Nick Kauffman and media representatives from KSOM, Atlantic News Telegraph, KJAN and the Adair County Free Press (joined by conference call).
Supervisor Wedemeyer moved and Supervisor Baier seconded approval of the minutes from the June 9, 2026 meeting; the motion carried unanimously. Supervisor Baier then moved and Wedemeyer seconded a motion to approve claims presented to the board. The claims totaled $2,051.57 and included $81.43 to Alliant Energy (gas), $16.97 to Auxiant HRA Ins Trust, $160.00 to Cass County Government for service of process, $1,334.76 to Verizon Wireless for a hotspot for a survey crew/tablets, and $458.41 to Windstream for telephone service. Fund-level allocations shown in the claims report were $699.84 to the General Fund, $1,334.76 to Secondary Road, and $16.97 to Adair County Insurance Trust.
The board approved the grand total of claims and acknowledged receipt of homestead and military disallowances, authorizing the chair to sign the disallowance letters. The meeting concluded with a motion by Supervisor Wedemeyer, seconded by Supervisor Hoadley, to adjourn at 9:09 a.m. The minutes were signed by Vice Chair Michael Christoffersen and attested by Auditor Ruthie Smith.
