Commissioner Sabina Ernst told the Conservation Commission on June 17 that the remaining trees from a Community Tree Grant were delivered to and planted at Browns River Middle School, and she plans to organize volunteer teams for summer watering. She is preparing a grant report that will be due by the end of the month.
The commission discussed wildlife coexistence — measures for beaver and bear — and agreed to draft policy language by email because two key members were absent. Sabina said land‑trust communications indicated neighbors raised flooding concerns tied to beaver activity on private land but that there was no immediate threat to town culverts.
The commission also discussed volunteer work at the Town Tree Nursery and noted that Sabina forwarded Lake Champlain Sea Grant road‑salt education dates (from Kris Stepanuk) to town contacts; in earlier conversations, Paula expressed interest in hosting a road‑salt reduction workshop with the road crew and possibly the Conservation Commission.
The commission recorded that the April meeting minutes were not approved and that the matter was tabled until the next meeting.
