Lamoni board approves personnel moves, senior trip and athletic admission changes; tables architecture decision

The Lamoni Community School District board recorded multiple personnel and operational approvals at its April 13, 2022 meeting, and tabled selection of an architectural partner until May.
Personnel actions approved unanimously included accepting the resignation of elementary teacher Sarah Burke and the retirements of Media/TAG teacher Lynda Farnham and Nutrition Department cook Maurita Jeanes. The board accepted the resignation of junior high girls track coach Judi Daily for the spring 2022 season.
The board approved hiring Kala Boswell as Cook for the Nutrition Program for 2022–23, replacing Maurita Jeanes; the minutes state Boswell currently serves as dishwasher/food prep for the district. Directors also approved moving Larry Johnson from a 0.5 FTE to a 1.0 FTE High School Business teacher for 2022–23, ending a shared position with Central Decatur School District. Motions on these items were moved by Director Michele Dickey-Kotz and seconded by Director Kris Stevenson or Director Kathy Lerma-DeNuccio as recorded; each motion carried unanimously.
On student activities, the board approved the Class of 2022 senior trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 23–26, and approved the Class of 2022 list pending completion of graduation requirements; the board also forgave two days missed for seniors and separately forgave two days missed for Kindergarten through 11th-grade students due to inclement weather.
The board approved a change in Bluegrass Athletic Conference admission rates for 2022–23: varsity and JV adult and student tickets will be a flat $5 and junior high events will be a flat $3 for both adults and students, citing increases in officials’ pay as the driver of the change.
As part of facility planning, the board tabled the decision to select an architectural firm for master facility planning and project design until the May meeting so references for each firm could be checked.
What’s next: The district will implement the personnel changes and process the senior trip logistics and ticketing policy for 2022–23. The architectural firm selection will be revisited at the May board meeting.
