Lamoni school board approves staffing moves, policy second reading and Graceland work-study agreement

The Lamoni Community School District Board on Aug. 11 approved several routine personnel and policy actions and heard an annual report from Nutrition Services.
Board President Nate Pierschbacher called the meeting to order. Roll call recorded Directors Nate Pierschbacher, Michele Dickey-Kotz, Kathy Lerma-DeNuccio and Kris Stevenson as present; Director Zack Mullins was listed as absent in the minutes.
In a consent motion, the board approved the meeting agenda, the July 20 minutes, invoices for August, open enrollment-in applications and a fundraising request from the sophomore class. The motion is recorded as moved by Director Michele Dickey-Kotz and seconded by Director Zack Mullins; the minutes state the motion "carried unanimously." (The minutes contain an internal inconsistency: roll call lists Director Mullins as absent while several motions are recorded as seconded by "Director Mullins." The minutes themselves present these two statements and do not reconcile them.)
Nutrition Director Stacy Jones reported that for the 2021–22 school year, the district served more than 23,331 breakfasts and 43,252 lunches, a 28% increase from the prior year. Jones said the district participated in the Summer Food Service program in June with average daily participation around 50 students for breakfast and 75 for lunch. She also reported the district received a fresh fruit and vegetable grant that provided snacks to roughly 165 elementary students and noted Nutrition Services served more than 800 adult breakfasts and 2,217 adult lunches to district employees over the year.
On personnel and compliance items, the board approved the designation of Ryan Martin as Level 1 Investigator with Amy Sellars as alternate; the District Level 2 Investigator was designated as the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office. The board separately approved Amy Sellars, identified in the minutes as the school counselor, to serve as the investigator for allegations of bullying and harassment and as the district liaison for homeless children and youth.
The board also approved hiring Dylan Lame as a special education teacher and assistant football coach for 2022–23.
In policy business, the board approved the second reading of the 900 Board Policy series regarding district and community relations. The board approved the 2022–2023 work-study agreement with Graceland University and noted that Schemmer Architects and Estes Construction will continue working with the district on master planning and building upgrades.
The board announced a work session for Aug. 17, 2022, confirmed the local school election for Sept. 13, 2022, and scheduled the next regular meeting for Sept. 14, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
