Harmony Chamber outlines fall events; EDA affirms $26,500 2021 funding in budget

The Harmony Area Chamber of Commerce presented its Director’s Report at the EDA meeting on Sept. 3, outlining upcoming promotions and events and requesting operations funding for 2021 equal to the 2020 amount of $26,500.
Melissa Vander Plas delivered the report and described planned activities including city-wide garage sales on Sept. 19, a Customer Appreciation event on Oct. 15, a modified Haunted Harmony on Oct. 31, Small Business Saturday promotions in November, and a community tree lighting and Santa event in December. Vander Plas also noted ongoing membership outreach, mask distribution, visitor-guide advertising and a planned ribbon cutting for Mindy Jones at Tin, Rust & Harmony on Sept. 19.
Vander Plas had submitted a written Director’s Report; board members noted the requested $26,500 was already included in the draft 2021 EDA budget that the board had approved in the prior month, and the board reached consensus that no further board action was required to adopt the chamber’s requested funding.
The board also approved a claim from the chamber for the second half of 2020 in the amount of $13,250 as part of the financial report approvals.
Vander Plas said the visitor center saw a strong early-August flow of visitors followed by a slower second half of the month, and that activity slowed further during parking-lot reconstruction. She asked the board to note planned marketing and event dates and contact her office for details.
