At the March 11 Akeley City Council meeting, Water/Sewer staff briefed the council on MnDOT’s wrap-up of the HWY64 project and local system maintenance.
City Hall relayed an email from Mike Hubner about the HWY64 project; staff said Young Excavating removed an abandoned water main and that ten curb-stop boxes were installed. Staff also said extra pipe was supplied for a Pleasant Avenue gate valve; those materials were not used, and Kristi Kath reported the city had already paid for them. Staff estimated the unused materials at roughly $10,000–$12,000 and said Kristi will gather final costs for council review.
Reid Watson reported on lift-station 2: the city will test a pump for several months to monitor performance. "If it works well and the city wants to keep it that it will cost around $8,300," Watson said. He also reported that water loss metrics are improving but that the source of the loss has not yet been found.
