Akeley council approves consent agenda, donations resolution and several local measures

Mayor Brian Hitchcock called the Akeley City Council to order at 6:00 p.m. on March 11, 2026. Council members Dan Riggs, Dale Nelson and Bobbie Wosika were present.
The council approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from the Feb. 11 regular meeting, the February treasurer’s and administration finance reports, and total disbursements of $111,890.12 and total receipts of $107,737.25. Council member Bobbie Wosika moved to approve the consent agenda; Council member Dan Riggs seconded and the motion passed.
City Hall reported that Resolution 9-2026, acknowledging donations for the Akeley Community Easter Hunt, was approved by motion of Council member Dan Riggs. Later in the meeting Dan Snider, a representative of Colonial Life, presented voluntary employee benefit options. "It would only cost the employee, and the city would not have a cost," Snider said, describing payroll-deducted plans that would include dental, accident, cancer, critical-illness, disability, hospital indemnity and life insurance. Council member Dan Riggs moved to approve Colonial Life working with the city’s employees; Council member Dale Nelson seconded and the motion passed.
Other routine business included authorizing the seven-year hay contract to be put out for bid when the current agreement (held by Dan Splittstoesser) expires April 10, 2026; that motion was made by Council member Dan Riggs and seconded by Council member Bobbie Wosika. City staff also noted that the Liquor Store freezer loss will be covered by insurance except for a $250 deductible. "The only thing that has to be paid is $250.00 and the rest of the expenses will be covered," City Hall staff stated.
The council adjourned at 6:57 p.m. on a motion by Council member Dan Riggs, seconded by Council member Dale Nelson.
