Waynesboro honors Registrar Lisa Jeffers on retirement after 39 years

At Tuesday’s meeting, Waynesboro City Council presented a proclamation recognizing Registrar Lisa Jeffers for 39 years in election administration and local service.
Councilmember Mr. Woods (who introduced the proclamation) praised Jeffers’s statewide reputation among registrars, recounted her progression from assistant registrar (starting in 1987) to registrar, leadership roles in the Voter Registrars Association of Virginia, and certifications earned in 1999 and 2023. The proclamation noted Jeffers presided over multiple presidential and general elections, office relocations, ward adjustments, and changes in election dates while responding to nearly 17,000 voter questions in the city.
Lisa Jeffers thanked council and staff and urged residents to volunteer: “If you're ever in the opportunity to serve as an officer of election or volunteer, please do. It's a thankless job...but it's also rewarding.” Councilmembers offered congratulations and the proclamation was signed by the mayor on June 22, 2026.
