The West Burlington City Council approved several consent and new-business items Tuesday, including personnel additions and equipment purchases described on the meeting agenda.
By roll-call vote the council approved a resolution adding two EMTs to the West Burlington Fire Department (names listed on the agenda). Councilors then approved purchase of a 2024 Chevy Tahoe for the police department and discussed equipment-fit and installation costs; staff said full outfitting and installation could add roughly $20,000 and that some reimbursement for salvaged electronics was expected. The council also approved a quote to replace the transmission on a 2017 Ford Explorer unit and authorized purchase of six sets of bunker gear for the fire department at $22,218.
City staff and the police chief explained fleet counts, reserve balances and possible funding sources, including equipment reserve, local option sales tax and capital reserves. Councilors asked staff to consider timing in the next budget cycle and to return with cost details on installation and equipment salvage.
Votes: motions carried on voice or roll-call votes as recorded on the agenda; no defeats were recorded for the items presented.
