Susan Badet said she supports the proposed new high school, arguing it would improve student access to programs at the Waterloo Career Center and strengthen opportunities across East and West high schools. She said the district’s WCC connection would allow students to take classes without negatively affecting choices at their home high schools.
Joshua J described repeated vape-related incidents involving his son at West High and Expo and urged the board to press elected officials and community partners to find alternatives to current disciplinary outcomes. He said local retailers make vapes easy for teens to obtain and suggested directing students to treatment, counseling or community-service options rather than lengthy athletic suspensions that can be career-limiting for seniors.
Board members thanked speakers, encouraged use of proper channels for personnel concerns, and noted the board’s role in broader community efforts. Trustees also reminded the public of a series of town halls ahead of the Nov. 5 vote on the one‑high‑school proposal.
