The Waterloo Comm School District board approved a set of routine but consequential items, including a construction change order, the employee handbook for 2024–25, and second readings of multiple board policies.
Change order: The board approved Change Order No. 3 for the East High School pool infield project, an additive change of roughly $35,726 to provide labor, materials and equipment to correct the existing roof structure in the project area. Project oversight was attributed to ISG Group with Larson Construction as general contractor; Nate from the project team was present to answer questions. The board approved the superintendent's recommendation by voice vote.
Employee handbook: The board adopted the proposed 2024–25 employee handbook as presented. Chief Human Resources Officer Anthony Spetus reviewed the changes with the board and responded to questions; after brief discussion the board approved the handbook by voice vote.
Policy updates: On second reading the board approved a bundle of policy updates including Title IX nondiscrimination and harassment policies, employee qualifications and recruitment, child abuse reporting, discipline and student safety policies, curriculum and instructional program policies, and several personnel-administration items. Board members described the updates as aligning district policy with model language from the Iowa Association of School Boards and part of the district's routine policy-review cycle.
Votes and procedural notes: All items were approved by voice vote and the chair announced each motion carried. Detailed vote tallies by member name were not recorded on the public transcript for these items.
Next steps: The district will administratively implement the approved handbook and policy changes and proceed with the construction change order as described by the project team.
