Laurens council approves street closures for Aug. 10 block party and Sept. 14 car show

The Laurens City Council granted two street-closure requests at its Aug. 5 meeting: a one-block closure for a community block party planned for Aug. 10 and a closure for the Got Your Six Car Show on Sept. 14.
Amanda Martz (with William and Wesley) asked the council to close a portion of the block on South 3rd Street for a block party on Aug. 10. Council member Jean Swanson moved to approve the request; Council member John Jamison seconded and the motion carried with all ayes.
Separately, Council member John Jamison moved to approve a road-closure request for the Got Your Six Car Show on Sept. 14 for the north half of 3rd Street, with the option to close the south half if needed at the direction of the City Manager, Hilary Reed. Council member Aaron Christenson seconded and the motion carried with all ayes.
Both motions were recorded as approved; the City Manager will be able to direct an expanded closure for the car show if operational needs require it.
