Resident warns zoning push can't outpace Jericho infrastructure; commission hears wastewater and outreach updates

Jim, a resident who identified long-term experience in town, used the public-comment period to urge the Planning Commission to prioritize "clean, simple" steps that account for Jericho's infrastructure limits. "The densities that you're talking about for the most part cannot exist in Jericho," he said, citing lack of municipal sewer, septic limitations and difficult emergency access on some roads.
Staff and commissioners then reported updates from recent conferences and task-force work. A staff/press briefing summarized progress with a consultant on development scenarios for Riverside that are informing a preliminary engineering report and a community wastewater study. Commissioners who attended the Rise Summit said they made contacts with the Let's Build Homes coalition (state-level outreach) and with the Northern Border Regional Commission, which has funded wastewater and water-infrastructure projects in rural areas.
Commissioners also described outreach tools and ideas from the summit, including a facilitation/product from a Burlington-based firm (Game Theory Co.) that helps crowdsource and map public ideas; members suggested it could be useful for fall engagement and open-house formats. Community announcements included that the Jericho-Underhill Food Hub is organizing weekly community pizza nights at the elementary school (Tuesdays, July 7–Aug. 25 at 5:30 p.m.) and a community meal on Aug. 2 at Davis Farm.
Staff noted the Wastewater Task Force is preparing briefings for other town boards and that commissioners may request an early summer update from the task force to the planning commission. No funding awards or final engineering decisions were reported at the meeting.
