Lake Community Arts, district set Young People’s Concerts in October; group funds student transportation

Lila N. Terrio, president of Lake Community Arts, told the Lake County School Board on June 22 that her nonprofit will partner with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra to bring Young People’s Concerts to Lake County schools on Oct. 22–23, 2026. ‘‘Lake Community Arts will finance student transportation while musician fees are being supported through generous grants through Orlando Magic and Disney,’’ Terrio said.

Terrio said the partnership will coordinate with district staff, including Lisa Posley, to bring thousands of elementary students to the live symphony performance and will include two professional development days for arts educators as well as honors choirs for elementary and high school students. ‘‘These programs provide young people with opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts,’’ she said.

Terrio also described local program growth: Lake Community Choir has expanded to more than 150 singers and has presented concerts to audiences exceeding 750 attendees. She said the organization is launching the first Lake Community Concert Band, beginning Aug. 26 at Lake Minneola High School, and that arts and cultural organizations will meet in September at the Mission Inn Resort and Club to form a countywide arts and cultural alliance.

Board members thanked Terrio and district staff for the partnership. The superintendent and board did not take a formal vote on the announcement; the remarks were received as public comment and in the superintendent’s report the district noted its support for the collaboration.

The partnership will use grant support for musician fees and Lake Community Arts’ funds for student transportation; Terrio said district leadership will coordinate logistics with schools and that individual school administrations will choose whether to participate.
