He summarized material presented by the Buchanan County EMS Advisory Council, saying the proposed levy would be set at $0.75 per $1,000 of taxable valuation and is intended to fund the creation of a county-owned ambulance service to serve the district currently covered by AMR Ambulance, help pay for EMS certification and continuing education, purchase capital EMS equipment and ambulances or first responder apparatus, and provide stipends to incentivize citizens to join EMS services and offset costs incurred during responses (for example, time and fuel).
