Mayor Michael J. Cook used the Feb. 11 meeting to preview several community events and operational updates: the Buchanan County Economic Development Consortium (BCEDC) meeting will be held in Lamont on April 28; city‑owned Church Street properties will be used for fire department training before demolition; and the city is assessing the possibility of three new houses being built.
Cook highlighted the Lamont Public Library in the Mayor’s Spotlight, announced an "If I Was Mayor" contest and a 250th‑anniversary scavenger hunt, and directed residents to the mayor’s Facebook page for details. He also outlined City Clean Up logistics: April 8 during regular garbage pickup; items must be curbside by 6:00 a.m.; two dumpsters (appliances and metals) will be obtained from Schafer’s Iron & Metal in Rowley; TVs, computers and electronics are excluded; residents who want Kluesner Sanitation to pick up items on the regular garbage day must contact City Hall and pay $20 per item.
Fire Chief Terry Crow reported the department responded to three medical calls, one fire and six lift assists since the last meeting and has scheduled physicals with Med Compass for March 30. Crow said he had met with Madison Township regarding township fees.
Public Works Director Paul Lincoln said Oasis will provide a quote to repair a stormwater pipe along Albert Street and that a new truck has arrived.
The council approved these reports and announcements as part of the meeting record; formal votes at the session concerned separate agenda items (sanitation contract, DOT agreement and budget hearing dates).
