Lamoni school board approves $14,000 land purchase and hires Schemmer for district facilities planning

On May 11, 2022, the Lamoni Community School District Board of Directors approved the purchase of the west half of Lot 3, Block 4, Central Addition to the City of Lamoni for $14,000 and voted to retain Schemmer as the district architectural firm for master facility planning and project design.
The land purchase was approved "with any easements and appurtenant servient estates" and subject to zoning, recorded covenants and utility easements. The motion to approve the purchase was made by Director Michele Dickey-Kotz and seconded by Director Kris Stevenson; the board approved the motion unanimously.
Separately, the board approved a contract with Schemmer to partner with the district on master facility planning and project design and to utilize ESSER funds for priority HVAC projects. That motion was also offered by Dickey-Kotz, seconded by Stevenson, and carried unanimously.
The board reviewed a communications timeline developed by the Donovan Group to support a Physical Plant and Equipment (PPE) levy community vote planned for September 2022. The timeline is intended to guide outreach and information-sharing ahead of the proposed levy vote.
Next steps include advancing the master facility planning work with Schemmer and moving forward with the communications plan for the September levy vote. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for June 8, 2022.
