Lamoni board approves personnel moves, handbooks and policy reading; schedules facilities work session

The Lamoni Community School District Board of Education, meeting June 8 in Lamoni High School Room 411, approved several routine governance items and personnel actions.
Director Michele Dickey-Kotz moved to approve the day's agenda, the May 11 minutes and the June invoice list; Director Zack Mullins seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The board then approved resignations from special education paraprofessionals Kathy Burnette, Debbie Holmes and Tyra Smallwood; the motion was moved by Director Zack Mullins and seconded by Director Michele Dickey-Kotz and carried unanimously.
Human Resources Director Becca Crouch presented revisions to the employee handbook; after review the board approved the 2022–2023 employee handbook on second reading. The board also approved the Lamoni School District secondary course curriculum guide and, after discussion of preschool inclusion, middle school eligibility, hat-wearing expectations and the use of physical restraints by trained staff, approved the 2022–2023 Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High School Student Handbooks on second reading.
On policy matters, the board approved the first reading of the 900-series board policies covering district and community relations. Director Kathy Lerma-DeNuccio seconded the motion; Director Zack Mullins was selected to meet with Superintendent Coffelt and Board Secretary Lisa Jones to review revisions and recommend second-reading approval at the July meeting.
The board moved into closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(i) at 5:42 p.m. for the superintendent evaluation and exited closed session at 6:10 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
