Lamont council approves 7-year garbage contract, OKs DOT agreement and schedules budget hearing

The Lamont City Council on Feb. 11 approved a seven-year refuse and recycling contract with Kluesner Sanitation, authorized a maintenance agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation and set public hearings on the city’s fiscal 2026–27 budget.
Jack O’Brien of Kluesner Sanitation presented two proposals: a seven-year contract with a 3% annual increase, or a five-year option with a 3% first-year increase and 4% in subsequent years. Council member Lamphier moved to accept the seven-year proposal; Slack seconded. The motion carried with the ayes of Adams, Lincoln, Slack and Lamphier and was recorded as Resolution 26-05.
Council also approved an Iowa DOT Agreement for Maintenance and Repair of Primary Roads in Municipalities. Lamphier moved and Adams seconded the DOT agreement; the motion carried (ayes: Lincoln, Slack, Adams and Lamphier) as Resolution 26-06.
On budget action, the council reviewed the FY2026–27 budget proposal and set a public hearing on the consolidated general fund tax levy for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1. The motion to set the hearing was made by Slack and seconded by Lamphier and passed as Resolution 26-07. The council also set an April 1 work meeting at 6:45 p.m. to schedule the full budget hearing and set the budget adoption meeting for April 22 at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting began with approval of the consent agenda (February agenda; January minutes; bills; January receipts; January Treasurer’s Report). The consent agenda included a detailed list of payroll and vendor payments totaling $24,208.90 and January receipts totaling $53,015.39; those financial items were approved as part of the consent agenda.
All formal motions and recorded votes in the meeting minutes are reflected in city resolutions (26-05, 26-06 and 26-07). The council adjourned at 8:01 p.m.
