Lamont council approves consent agenda, hears reports on public works and fire department

The Lamont City Council on April 1 approved routine business items, heard reports from city departments and set out next steps on property cleanup and infrastructure maintenance.
On a motion by Devlin and second by Lincoln the council approved the consent agenda, which included the April agenda, March minutes, bills and receipts. The minutes list total expenditures of $54,818.93 across funds and March receipts totaling $38,275.86. Several line items were read into the record, including utility, insurance and vendor charges.
The minutes show no formal report from the Buchanan County Sheriff Department but note 53 hours logged for the month of March. The city clerk reported the fire department responded to one controlled burn request, one ditch/grass fire, one lift assist and two medical calls during the reporting period.
Mayor Michel J. Cook reviewed Library Board minutes and announced that the Buchanan County Economic Development Commission (BCEDC) will meet at the Lamont Community Room on April 28. He also reminded residents that clean-up day is April 8 and said he will contact residents to encourage property cleanup before the city begins nuisance-abatement procedures and issues citations for violations of Chapter 50 and Chapter 51 of the city code.
The Public Works Director reported Oasis will repair the storm drain by the Legion and Central Tank Coatings will perform water tower maintenance; the town expects to be on rural water for a couple of days while the work occurs.
The council approved the membership application of Marlan Fletcher to the Lamont Fire Department on a motion by Adams, second by Devlin. The meeting adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
