The Town of Red Hook Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee met April 28, 2026, at Red Hook Town Hall to review draft vision statements and goals, hear event-planning updates for Apple Blossom Day and Workshop #2 at Rose Hill Farm, approve minutes from the April 7 meeting, and set the next meeting date.
Julia Solomon, chair of the steering committee, and Eric Pierson, a guest from Pattern for Progress, presented event plans for Apple Blossom Day and Workshop #2. Committee members offered suggestions on event promotion and setup and agreed that a summary of community engagement would be published ahead of the event to help inform participation.
Committee members reacted positively to the draft vision statements and goals but repeatedly recommended simplifying planning jargon so the public can more easily understand and weigh in. Members also said the draft reads as preliminary and should be revised after the next round of community input, including feedback gathered at upcoming workshops.
The group discussed how to present the topic area labeled "Land Use and Community Character," including how to frame smart-growth ideas so they are clear and actionable. Several members urged that goals be more directive and tied to measurable strategies; others emphasized the need to surface tradeoffs and prioritization for the public to consider, suggesting Workshop #3 or later engagement opportunities to focus on those tradeoffs.
Minutes from the April 7 meeting were approved during the session. The committee announced that the May 26 meeting is canceled; the next meeting is scheduled for June 23, 2026, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., at Red Hook Town Hall, with planned agenda items to include a debrief of Workshop #2 and further discussion of plan content and process.
Attendance recorded for the April 28 meeting included committee members Christine Kane, Dennis Kanuk, Jennifer Mañón, Hart Migdal, Sam Phelan, Ben Shute, and Chair Julia Solomon; liaisons Melkorka Kjarval (Village of Red Hook), Jacob Testa (Red Hook Town Board), and Taun Toay (Bard College); and guest Eric Pierson (Pattern for Progress). Regrets were recorded for Laurie Husted, Chuck Mead, and Sarah Imboden (liaison, Village of Tivoli).
