The board endorsed staff plans to develop a rain garden at Robinson Lake to manage runoff and enhance the park’s ecology, and it approved a modest budget to revive the Waterfest community event.
Staff said the rain garden would be located near a parking-lot corner to capture runoff and stabilize an eroding shoreline; parks staff and volunteers would lead planting and outreach, while vendors and partner groups would be solicited to contribute designs and materials. Board members supported the idea as an educational and erosion-control measure.
Russell, the city’s marketing director (introduced at the meeting), described plans to coordinate Waterfest with MS4 outreach, partner with local environmental nonprofits and provide family-focused programming. The board approved a $1,000 line item to cover deliverables such as signage and giveaways for the event; staff said the amount would be sufficient to restart the festival and that it can be scaled in future years.
Staff will proceed with vendor outreach for the rain garden and with event logistics for the Waterfest dates in April, and will return to the board with updates and any additional budget requests.
