Residents raise safety, signage and service requests; emergency services report active mutual aid calls

Emergency-management and public-safety updates and several resident requests dominated the public‑comment portion of the Southampton Township Committee meeting on July 16.
Eamonn Fitzpatrick‑Ruth, identified in the minutes as OEM and HLES, reported that the 2024 EMA grant fiscal year has started, summarized June activity (73 mutual‑aid calls), said three volunteers were onboarded and one volunteer resigned, and noted the township submitted a waiver application to the New Jersey Department of Health to expand EMT scope of practice for certain blood‑glucose testing devices and albuterol sulfate for respiratory patients.
Scott Mitchell of the Vincent Fire Company reported June calls, said the department applied for four grants this month (including drink packets for water bottles and PPE items such as gloves and safety glasses), and said fund‑raising at the fireworks event produced enough donations to pay for a pair of boots. He also inquired about a request to Senator Tiver’s office for lightweight suits; Mayor Mikulski said he is awaiting follow‑up.
Resident Susan Costales asked where her husband’s Purple Heart banner is on Main Street; Deputy Mayor Ronald Heston said several flags need replacement and that calls will be made to inform owners to reorder banners. Barry Briscoe asked about Todd Ditzman’s status; Mayor Mikulski said Mr. Ditzman had submitted his resignation and the township is seeking a replacement Class A member. Leisuretowne representatives reported election results and requested continued township assistance replacing stop signs throughout Leisuretowne and a curve sign on Big Hill Road for bicyclists; Bill Cozzi presented Kathy Henson as the Leisuretowne Association vice president.
Clerk Melanie L. Brown announced a DMV mobile unit will be at the municipal building on Aug. 1 for registration renewals and Real ID services. Committee members used their reports to note summer concerts, donated supplies for events, a new PSEG light pole installed for concert lighting, and a hole that formed on the Purgatory Road bridge that prompted DPW action and a temporary closure.
