During public comment at the June 23 board meeting, library media technicians asked trustees to review and update their job descriptions and pay ranges to reflect substantial technology and inventory duties.
"My name is Jen Davis. I'm representing the library media technicians with TVUSD. I'm here to ask the board members and district members to review our classified position in next week's collective bargaining agreement," said Jen Davis, citing an outdated pay range (range 28 set in 2005) and increased responsibilities after the district shifted from Chromebooks to iPads.
Deborah McManis, who identified herself as a library media technician at Alamos Elementary, described daily device workloads—inventorying, troubleshooting, exchanging failed devices, managing chargers and billing for insurance—and said the job description had not been updated since 2010. "These added technical job requirements are extremely time consuming and labor intensive," she said, and requested a reclassification to a higher range (she suggested range 32 or 33) to more closely match comparable districts.
Trustees and staff acknowledged the comments. Board members asked staff to review pay ranges and job descriptions as part of the upcoming collective bargaining process and directed follow‑up to clarify comparisons with neighboring districts and financial impacts.
Next steps: staff will consider the request in bargaining discussions and return with comparative salary data and any recommended job‑description updates.
