Lamoni board approves hires, partnerships, fees and a substitute-pay increase; tabled policy reading

At its July 20 meeting the Lamoni Community School District Board approved a package of personnel moves, partnerships and administrative items under motions recorded in the consent section of the minutes.
Personnel and contracts approved included hiring Megan Boswell for food service; supplemental teacher-leader contracts for staff including Leslea McKillip, Michelle Cray, Liz Carpenter, Nathan Silver and others; one-year coaching contracts for Raphael Coulthard (assistant football, pending licensure) and Nathan Silver (junior high boys basketball); and acceptance of resignations from Elizabeth Martinez (Special Education 1-1 para associate) and Scott Roberts (Drivers Education teacher). The board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Head Start to provide three- and four-year-old preschool services for 2022–23, a Graceland University annual facilities agreement, and a Green Hills AEA media services contract covering 15 days at $575 per day (total $8,625) because no local applicant filled the media-services position.
The board approved Southwestern Community College and Graceland University as educational partners for Education and Healthcare Registered Apprenticeship Grants; the minutes record that Director Michele Dickey-Kotz abstained from that vote. Directors approved 2022–23 student fees and nutrition meal rates and increased the full-day substitute teacher pay from $115 to $125 effective August 2022 (a $10 increase).
The board tabled the second reading of the 900 series of board policies (District and Community relations) until the next meeting. Later in the evening the board moved into closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(i) for the superintendent evaluation at 9:09 p.m. and returned to open session at 9:49 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 9:50 p.m.
