Fairmont district nearing facilities plan; open house scheduled June 10 before board meeting

Superintendent Trout told the board the district is nearing completion of a year-long facilities needs assessment and will present preliminary project ideas at a public open house on June 10 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Fairmont Elementary BUD room, prior to the board meeting that evening.

Trout said the district worked with facilities experts and ICS partners to identify and prioritize building needs with an emphasis on improving student experience and maintaining building operations. The superintendent credited buildings and grounds staff and student council listening sessions for contributing input to the assessment. He said the plan will include project scopes, timing and cost estimates and that additional opportunities for public input will be available in the months ahead.

The superintendent also reported current enrollment at 1,724 students and noted the district’s highest three-year enrollment range. Trout asked the board and the community to participate in the June 10 open house to review research and proposed solutions.

Board members encouraged the public to attend and noted the next board meeting will start 15 minutes later than usual (5:30 p.m.) to follow the open house. The board did not take immediate action; the open house is an engagement step in the facilities-planning process.
