Council accepts Fire Relief Association bylaw change and approves proceeding on potential truck donation

Adam, speaking for the Fire Relief Association, asked the council to accept changes to the association's bylaws and outlined a plan to purchase and donate a new utility truck to the fire department. He said the association had already approved the bylaw change internally.
Staff explained the city must accept the donation for the vehicle to become a city asset. "If we take that donation… the city becomes fully responsible for it… it would be their purchase; it would not be our purchase," Administrator Sarah Brun said, explaining that the association would buy the truck and the city would assume insurance, maintenance and storage responsibilities after transfer.
The council voted to accept the bylaw amendment and indicated agreement to proceed with accepting a donated truck in principle; staff will return with firm cost estimates for equipment and storage needs. Council members noted similar past donations of units to the department and requested follow-up on space and operating impacts before final acceptance of any specific vehicle.
