Keota School Board approves consent agenda, raises substitute pay and OKs maintenance agreement

The Keota Community School District Board of Education on Sept. 12 approved its consent agenda and a series of routine personnel and contract items during a meeting at the Keota Elementary School Media Center.
Andy Conrad moved to accept the meeting agenda as presented; Pat Hammen seconded and the motion carried, with the four initial members voting in favor. Later, after all five board members were present, Jim Tinnes moved to accept the consent items as presented; Pat Hammen seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
The consent agenda listed open-enrollment requests for Jocelynn Morgan (to Mid Prairie), Milania Karr (to Washington) and Josh Reid (to Mid Prairie); multiple fundraising activities for EagleRock! (including a lasagna supper on Jan. 21, a Dec. 7 Cookie Walk and other periodic sales) and for FFA (apparel, fruit/meat/cheese/candy sales, greenhouse plant sales and May shop projects); and personnel changes including the resignations of Jenny Hobbs (junior high track coach) and Elizabeth Overturf (summer concession stand).
The board approved new coaching hires: Julianna Berg (volunteer assistant volleyball coach), Jodi Ebert (junior high boys/girls track coach) and Cody Branstad (cross-country coach). The minutes note Dan Redlinger arrived at 6:07 p.m.
On personnel compensation, Pat Hammen moved to raise substitute teacher pay to $135.00 per day (rising to $197.64 after 10 consecutive days) and to increase substitute cooks and associates to $11.00 per hour; Jim Tinnes seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
The board also approved a semi-annual HVAC preventive agreement with AAA Mechanical for the 2024–25 year (motion by Pat Hammen, second by Dan Redlinger), and designated Superintendent Lisa Brenneman and Principal Seth Milledge as Level I investigators for the district (motion by Dan Redlinger, second by Jim Tinnes). The board voted to add several booster groups (Music Boosters, Athletic Boosters, Keota PTO, Keota Education Foundation, Youth Plus and Eagle Advocates) as additional insured at a reimbursement rate of $390 each (motion by Jim Tinnes, second by Andy Conrad). All recorded motions carried unanimously.
The board set its next regular meeting for Oct. 10, 2024, in the elementary media library and adjourned at 6:53 p.m.
