Waterford task force seeks further review after presentation on town efficiency project
Summary
The Waterford Energy Task Force heard a May 1 presentation from Resource Lighting and Energy about measures—transformers, refrigeration controls, aerators, piping insulation and vending machines—that the presenter estimated could save the town about $819 per month during a 60‑month financing term and about $8,975 per month afterward; the task force agreed to draft a letter to the First Selectman requesting another presentation and more information.

The Waterford Energy Task Force on May 1 heard a presentation from Resource Lighting and Energy and agreed to ask the First Selectman for a follow-up briefing on a proposed town energy-efficiency project.
Garrett Cudgma, representing Resource Lighting and Energy, outlined a package of measures that would target transformers, refrigeration controls, faucet aerators, piping insulation and vending machines. Cudgma told the task force that incentives for the program are available through the end of 2025 and estimated savings of about $819 per month during a 60-month, 0% financing period and roughly $8,975 per month after that financing period ends. Those figures were presented as estimates by the vendor and were not verified in the meeting record.
Members discussed next steps and asked for additional information and an extended presentation to town leadership. The task force agreed to draft a letter to the First Selectman requesting that staff arrange an additional presentation and provide supporting data on projected savings, financing terms, and available incentives.
Earlier business included a motion by Kate MacKenzie, seconded by Ivan Kuvalanka, to approve the March 25, 2025 meeting minutes; the motion passed (tally not specified). The meeting was called to order by Chair Mary Childs at 5:31 p.m. and adjourned at 6:20 p.m. after a motion to adjourn by MacKenzie, seconded by Kuvalanka.
Next steps identified by the task force include preparing the letter to the First Selectman and obtaining more detailed cost and savings data from Resource Lighting and Energy; no formal procurement or town-level approvals were taken at the May 1 meeting.
