The Waterford Energy Task Force on March 25 reviewed benchmarking work covering the town’s energy use for 2023 and 2024 compared with a 2015 baseline and identified next steps for policy research and efficiency measures.
Chair Mary Childs said the benchmarking report — which compares 2023 and 2024 energy consumption against the 2015 data profile — is expected and that the underlying data have been submitted to complete the analysis. The report referenced by Childs was shared with members in July and will guide further review of municipal energy ratings and potential improvements.
The committee discussed short‑term facility measures and operations changes. Members reported that the Public Works Department is investigating insulating building pipes to reduce energy loss, and Childs said she will follow up with town leaders on coordination with Eversource about ways to reduce usage.
The task force approved the Jan. 30, 2025 meeting minutes on a motion by Member Ivan Kuvalanka, seconded by Kate MacKenzie. The minutes were accepted as presented; no vote tally was recorded in the minutes.
For new business, the task force set assignments for its next meeting: members will share research on municipal energy policies, report back on the feasibility of hiring a third‑party energy audit, and bring recommended actions based on the Sustainability CT document. The meeting convened at 5:17 p.m. and adjourned at 5:49 p.m.
