Rochester Hills City Council on June 22 authorized a contract and a project contingency to fund the Henry Ford Hospital, Avon Towers, and Rochester High School water main replacement project, with a total not-to-exceed cost of $2,093,175.43.
City staff said the project scope includes replacing aging water mains on the hospital property, extending water main along Walton Boulevard to create a redundant connection, replacing obsolete fire hydrants and valves at Avon Towers, and repairing a break-prone segment in the Rochester High School parking lot. The base contract award was $1,902,886.76 with a 10% contingency of $190,288.68.
Work is scheduled to begin in late August and to take approximately 10 weeks. Staff said they will coordinate closely with Rochester Community Schools and Henry Ford Hospital to minimize disruptions, and that traffic impacts on Livernois and Walton will be kept minimal with any brief lane connections scheduled during off-peak hours. Council approved the purchase authorization and directed the mayor to execute an agreement upon satisfactory contract negotiation.
