Council screens PBS segment on Frank Waldron as part of Black History Month observance

Council Member Ben Giant introduced a PBS Mossbacks Northwest short about Frank D. Waldron and Seattle’s Jason Street jazz scene during the Feb. 18 meeting and said a Black in the Gorge speaker is expected at the March meeting.
At the start of its Feb. 18 meeting, the White Salmon City Council observed Black History Month with a short PBS Mossbacks Northwest video about Frank D. Waldron and the Jason Street jazz scene.
Council Member Ben Giant introduced the segment and noted that a speaker from Black in the Gorge could not attend that evening but is expected at the council’s first March meeting, when members will also recognize Women’s History Month. The video traced the development of Seattle’s Jazz Age during Prohibition and highlighted Frank Waldron’s influence on later musicians such as Quincy Jones and Jimi Hendrix.
Councilors thanked Giant for arranging the presentation. No formal action was taken on the presentation; it was provided for information and commemoration.
