The Starmont Community School District Board voted March 9 to approve a package of budget reductions that will reduce staffing across the district for the 2026–27 school year.
Board members approved motions reducing a middle school administrative assistant position, a middle school science teacher, a third-grade teacher, and reducing the Spanish teacher from 1.0 FTE to 0.625 FTE (with ELL responsibilities). The board also voted to cut six total positions from building leadership teams, to reduce a junior-high baseball coach, and to reduce a building principal position. All of those individual reduction motions carried 5-0.
Julie Uhlenkamp made several of the budget-reduction motions; other motions were moved or seconded by board members including Tony Recker and Jacob Moellers. The board did not record additional public testimony or extended debate on each motion in the minutes.
The motions were presented as budget reductions rather than program eliminations; the district will need to finalize staffing assignments and notify impacted employees according to district procedures and applicable law. Superintendent Robert Busch previously presented a preview of the 2026–27 budget process and a proposed tax notice that was sent to the auditor’s office.
The board’s actions also included earlier consent agenda approvals that finalized hires and resignations tied to personnel planning. The meeting record lists the hires and resignations the board approved under the consent agenda, and the board adjourned at 7:54 PM.
