Council approves several grant applications, a license renewal and sets workshop schedule

At its Oct. 20 meeting the Eveleth City Council approved a set of routine regulatory and grant measures and set a standing workshop schedule.
The council renewed a 2 a.m. license permit for Red Garter Lounge (214 Grant Ave.) after a motion was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. Councilors then approved a resolution to apply to Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation for community center improvement funds, and they voted to apply for the St. Louis County Community Development Block Grant program for sanitary sewer work (West Devil sanitary sewer is referenced). The council also approved a triple R application for the West Eve sanitary sewer force main project and authorized an application for grant navigation support for wastewater treatment facility improvements; staff noted the city will identify MSA Engineering as the fiscal agent on the navigation support application.
The council voted to set regular city council workshop days on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m., starting in November; if that date falls on a holiday, the meeting will move to Wednesday. The workshops are open to the public, and staff said they will post notice and packet materials in advance.
Several resolutions and applications were passed by voice vote; staff noted that many of the grants are competitive and that applications do not guarantee funding.
