Jay County highway superintendent to replace aging loader; commissioners approve new pickup

Howell said the department is seeking a replacement for a 1996 cab front wheel loader that is no longer trusted for road travel and quoted three pickup options at $39,887 (Dodge), $52,287 (Chevrolet) and $57,827.50 (Ford). Citing concerns about repair costs and reliability, Howell recommended a maintenance‑reliable option; commissioners approved a motion by Brian McGalliard, seconded by Rex Journay, to buy a 2024 Chevrolet from Ed Martin of Anderson for $52,287.
Howell also asked to dispose of a 2008 Ford 150 Supercrew with engine trouble and estimated scrap value at $500–$600. The commissioners authorized advertising the truck for sealed bid. Howell reported other operational updates, including completion of a new roof on the old salt barn and removal of a semi‑trailer from county property.
