Ivanhoe ambulance plans outfit; crew raises garage safety and housing concerns

Ivanhoe — Representatives of the Ivanhoe Ambulance updated the City Council on Sept. 8 about an upcoming vehicle upfit and concerns about where the ambulance is housed.
Rebecca Paluch and Kathleen Wall said the ambulance will go to Arrow in Rock Rapids for an upfit in roughly two weeks; Arrow will rent an ambulance to Ivanhoe while the work is completed. Ambulance personnel said they are concerned about the tight fit when backing into the current public works garage. They discussed options including redoing the ILS garage to accommodate the vehicle or seeking a county garage as a temporary location.
Public Works Director Jim Wright offered to paint backing strips or markings in the public works garage to improve visual guidance for drivers while the longer‑term housing question is explored. Rebecca Paluch said she would check whether the community transit bus garage at the county is still available as an option.
The council did not take formal action but discussed interim steps to reduce the immediate safety risk for ambulance crews.
