Ivanhoe council previews 2026 budget with proposed 10% levy and sheriff contract increases

Ivanhoe — The City Council on Sept. 8 discussed preliminary elements of the 2026 budget including a proposed 10% levy, a wage package and scheduled increases to the county sheriff contract.
Council participants reviewed a wage proposal that would apply a 3% cost‑of‑living adjustment and a 2% performance‑based increase for 2026; benefits were not finalized and will be decided at a future meeting. The council also discussed capital outlay priorities such as parks, the pool, streets and equipment and noted Bolton & Menk’s role in compiling the capital improvement plan.
The council reviewed proposed Lincoln County sheriff contract figures for three years: $66,415 for 2026 (a 4.9% increase), $72,468 for 2027 (4% increase) and $75,367 for 2028 (4% increase). The council also scheduled a water/sewer rates review in October and indicated that, for 2026, all properties would pay the base water/sewer rate plus MDH fees.
On the levy, council members recorded a proposal to set a preliminary levy at 10% at the next meeting; the levy amount will be formally established at that meeting. No formal votes on the levy or benefits were taken Sept. 8.
The budget workshop portion closed with the council directing staff to return with additional details and formal proposals at an upcoming meeting.
