Tolland board approves superintendent's 2024–25 priority goals, including full-day pre-K and expanded MTSS supports

The Tolland Board of Education voted on Nov. 20, 2024 to approve the superintendent's priority goals for 2024–25, following an executive-session discussion of the superintendent's evaluation and goals.

The motion as read into the record lists four primary priorities: 1) develop and begin implementation of a full-day pre-K four-year-old program for the Tolland Public Schools; 2) expand the Pathways program to add two additional pathways in 2025–26 and 2026–27 and increase pathway-oriented engagement and internships; 3) continue district and school safety and security measures and resources (including school resource officers, reunification plans and a district threat-assessment process and training); and 4) increase MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support) intervention supports through organizational and programmatic improvements to increase student engagement and timely, differentiated feedback.

The board moved and seconded the motion and then recorded the vote; the roll-call/voice responses indicated all members present voted in favor and the motion passed.

Board discussion on the item was brief; members emphasized next steps should include implementation planning and alignment with the budget. The superintendent and staff will be responsible for returning implementation details, staffing requirements and cost estimates for the board to consider during the budget process.

The board also entered executive session earlier in the meeting to discuss the superintendent's evaluation and goals; the public portion resumed prior to the approval vote on the goals.

The board adjourned after completing the vote.
