At its June 11 meeting, the Essex Conservation Commission approved two maintenance expenditures and accepted amended meeting minutes.
Commissioners voted unanimously to remove a leaning tree on the Orange Trail, approving the action “not to exceed the cost of $1,200.” Commissioner Lynda Porcaro made the motion to remove the tree and Commissioner Brette Fitton seconded it; the motion carried with all in favor.
The commission also approved purchase of trail maintenance equipment — including a weed whacker, electric hedge trimmer, pole pruner, lumber, mesh, spare chainsaw batteries, shovels, steel rakes, safety glasses and gloves — with an expenditure limit not to exceed $2,000. The motion to buy the listed equipment was made by Commissioner Drina Zuvic and seconded by Commissioner Brette Fitton; the minutes record the motion as approved by all.
Earlier in the meeting, the commission accepted three edits to the May 14 meeting minutes (corrections to hours spent removing invasives; correct spelling Kaufmann; change “Boy Scout Bridge” to “Eagle Scout Bridge”) on a motion by Commissioner Jim O’Brien with a second by Commissioner Drina Zuvic.
The commission also asked Lynda Porcaro to obtain a quote from J.L. Kopcha about replacing beams on the Eagle Scout Bridge and discussed possibly engaging VRHS students for that work. No additional expenditures or contract awards were approved at the June 11 meeting; further budget discussion may be scheduled via a special Zoom meeting if needed.
