Thomaston voters approve $111,000 for school feasibility study; Selectmen authorized to contract DRA

Edmond V. Mone, First Selectman, called a special town meeting of Thomaston to order at 7:00 p.m. July 30 in the Lena Morton Gallery and read the warning for the meeting.
"As recommended by the Board of Finance, I move to appropriate a total amount not to exceed $111,000.00 from Undesignated Fund Balance, to hire DRA to perform a feasibility study of the facility usage and regionalization potentials to assess and provide recommendations on the educational and operational efficiency of Thomaston Public Schools," said Julie Ingham when she moved the resolution; Nate Veira seconded the motion.
The resolution, presented as recommended by the Board of Education, Board of Finance and the Board of Selectmen, would fund a consultant-led feasibility study and authorize the First Selectman and the Board of Selectmen to execute all documents and take actions necessary to carry out the study. After discussion, the meeting conducted a paper ballot vote: 47 yes, 6 no. The motion passed.
The warning for the meeting, dated July 23, 2025, lists the proposed appropriation and notes that a full copy of the resolution was available for inspection at the Office of the Town Clerk. The document identifies the boards that recommended the action and indicates the study is intended to examine facility usage and regionalization potentials and to assess educational and operational efficiency.
Cathy DuPont was appointed secretary of the meeting earlier in the proceedings; the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m. upon motion of Tracy Decker, seconded by Nate Veira. The minutes were attested by Catherine P. DuPont, Clerk of the Meeting. The Town Clerk received the meeting record August 1, 2025.
